Acts 7 (discussion) (For short comments and opinions)

Commentary

Acts 7 tell the story of the murder of the early Christian Stephen. His death caused believers to flee Jerusalem, with the result that the faith spread.

Stephen was stoned to death because of accusations of blasphemy. Before his stoning he was brought before the Sanhedrin, where he gave a speech in his defence. Key features of this speech include the Jewish leaders' ongoing rejection of God's prophets throughout Israel's history, culminating now in their rejection of Jesus, God's righteous one. Stephen reveals in his speech his understanding that God does not live in man-made buildings, but

Acts 8:1 and Acts 8:4 reveal that this persecution was the catalyst for the expansion of the early church.

1 Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles. edit
4 Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word. edit
