Greek is the main language spoken in Greece. Today, it is spoken by approximately 15 million people, mostly in Greece. Greek has been written in the Greek alphabet since the 9th century BC. An older version of it, known as Koine Greek (or "New Testament Greek") was the lingua franca of the Roman Empire during the time of Jesus. A Greek is also a person from Greece, and is used in the New Testament to describe either people from Greece, or those who weren't Jews.
