Christianity has always been one of the most important themes in the history of cinema. Even in the early days, directors like George Méliès were directing films dealing with the Christian faith, such as Jeanne d'Arc in 1899. In 1905, Ferdinand Zecca and Lucien Nonguet co-directed La vie et la passion de Jésus Christ. This film was the first production to features the life of Christ on the big screen. The following decade Cecil B.DeMille became famous for making films with religious themes. With the film The Ten Commandments (1923) DeMille brought Christian filmaking to a new level. Carl Dreyer created La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc in 1928, which is considered among some film critics to be one of the greatest movies of all time.
