Titus 1

פולוס עבד אלהים ושליח ישוע המשיח לפי אמונת בחירי אלהים ודעת האמת אשר לחסידות׃

עלי תקות חיי העולם אשר הבטיח לפני ימות עולם האל אשר לא ישקר׃

וגלה במועדו את דברו על ידי הקריאה המפקדה בידי על פי מצות האלהים מושיענו׃

אל טיטוס בנו האמתי לפי אמונה אחת חסד ורחמים ושלום מאת האלהים אבינו ואדנינו ישוע המשיח מושיענו׃

לזאת עזבתיך בקריטי למען תשלים את החסד ותשים זקנים בכל עיר ועיר כאשר צויתיך׃

אם ימצא איש תם ובעל אשה אחת ויש לו בנים מאמינים ואין עליהם טענת פריצות ואינם סוררים׃

כי פקיד העדה צריך להיות איש תם כסכן לאלהים לא עמד על דעתו ולא רגזן ולא אהב יין ולא בעל אגרף ולא נטה אחרי הבצע׃

כי אם יהי מכניס ארחים ואהב טוב וצנוע וצדיק וקדוש וכבש את יצרו׃

ומחזיק בדבר הנאמן כפי ההוראה למען יהיה בכחו להזהיר בלקח הבריא ולהוכיח את המריבים׃

כי יש הרבה מרדים מדברי הבל ומתעי נפש ובפרט מן המולים׃

אשר סכור יסכר פיהם ההפכים בתים כלם בהורותם דברים לא כנים עקב בצע׃

וכבר אמר אחד מהם נביאם אשר בתוכם בני קריטי כזבים הם מעולם וחיות רעות וכרשים עצלים׃

והעדות הזאת אמת היא ובעבור כן תוכיחם תוכחה קשה למען יהיו בריאים באמונה׃

ולא ישימו לב אל הגדות היהודים ואל מצות האנשים הסרים מן האמת׃

הן הכל טהור לטהורים אבל לנטמאים ולאינם מאמינים אין דבר טהור כי נטמאה גם דעתם גם רוחם׃

אמרים המה כי ידעו את האלהים ובמעשיהם כופרים בו כי מתעבים וממרים הם ולא יצלחו לכל מעשה טוב׃

1. παυλος δουλος θεου αποστολος δε ιησου χριστου κατα πιστιν εκλεκτων θεου και επιγνωσιν αληθειας της κατ ευσεβειαν
2. επ ελπιδι ζωης αιωνιου ην επηγγειλατο ο αψευδης θεος προ χρονων αιωνιων
3. εφανερωσεν δε καιροις ιδιοις τον λογον αυτου εν κηρυγματι ο επιστευθην εγω κατ επιταγην του σωτηρος ημων θεου
4. τιτω γνησιω τεκνω κατα κοινην πιστιν χαρις και ειρηνη απο θεου πατρος και χριστου ιησου του σωτηρος ημων
5. τουτου χαριν σε εν κρητη ινα τα λειποντα επιδιορθωση και καταστησης κατα πολιν πρεσβυτερους ως εγω σοι διεταξαμην
6. ει τις εστιν ανεγκλητος μιας γυναικος ανηρ τεκνα εχων πιστα μη εν κατηγορια ασωτιας η ανυποτακτα
7. δει γαρ τον επισκοπον ανεγκλητον ειναι ως θεου οικονομον μη αυθαδη μη οργιλον μη παροινον μη πληκτην μη αισχροκερδη
8. αλλα φιλοξενον φιλαγαθον σωφρονα δικαιον οσιον εγκρατη
9. αντεχομενον του κατα την διδαχην πιστου λογου ινα δυνατος η και παρακαλειν εν τη διδασκαλια τη υγιαινουση και τους αντιλεγοντας ελεγχειν
10. εισιν γαρ πολλοι ανυποτακτοι ματαιολογοι και φρεναπαται μαλιστα οι εκ της περιτομης
11. ους δει επιστομιζειν οιτινες ολους οικους ανατρεπουσιν διδασκοντες α μη δει αισχρου κερδους χαριν
12. ειπεν τις εξ αυτων ιδιος αυτων προφητης κρητες αει ψευσται κακα θηρια γαστερες αργαι
13. η μαρτυρια αυτη εστιν αληθης δι ην αιτιαν ελεγχε αυτους αποτομως ινα υγιαινωσιν τη πιστει
14. μη προσεχοντες ιουδαικοις μυθοις και εντολαις ανθρωπων αποστρεφομενων την αληθειαν
15. παντα καθαρα τοις καθαροις τοις δε μεμιαμμενοις και απιστοις ουδεν καθαρον αλλα μεμιανται αυτων και ο νους και η συνειδησις
16. θεον ομολογουσιν ειδεναι τοις δε εργοις αρνουνται βδελυκτοι οντες και απειθεις και προς παν εργον αγαθον αδοκιμοι

1. Paulus servus Dei, Apostolus autem Jesu Christi secundum fidem electorum Dei, et agnitionem veritatis, quæ secundum pietatem est
2. in spem vitæ æternæ, quam promisit qui non mentitur, Deus, ante tempora sæcularia :
3. manifestavit autem temporibus suis verbum suum in prædicatione, quæ credita est mihi secundum præceptum Salvatoris nostri Dei :
4. Tito dilecto filio secundum communem fidem, gratia, et pax a Deo Patre, et Christo Jesu Salvatore nostro.
5. Hujus rei gratia reliqui te Cretæ, ut ea quæ desunt, corrigas, et constituas per civitates presbyteros, sicut et ego disposui tibi,
6. si quis sine crimine est, unius uxoris vir, filios habens fideles, non in accusatione luxuriæ, aut non subditos.
7. Oportet enim episcopum sine crimine esse, sicut Dei dispensatorem : non superbum, non iracundum, non vinolentum, non percussorem, non turpis lucri cupidum :
8. sed hospitalem, benignum, sobrium, justum, sanctum, continentem,
9. amplectentem eum, qui secundum doctrinam est, fidelem sermonem : ut potens sit exhortari in doctrina sana, et eos qui contradicunt, arguere.
10. Sunt enim multi etiam inobedientes, vaniloqui, et seductores : maxime qui de circumcisione sunt :
11. quos oportet redargui : qui universas domos subvertunt, docentes quæ non oportet, turpis lucri gratia.
12. Dixit quidam ex illis, proprius ipsorum propheta : Cretenses semper mendaces, malæ bestiæ, ventres pigri.
13. Testimonium hoc verum est. Quam ob causam increpa illos dure, ut sani sint in fide,
14. non intendentes judaicis fabulis, et mandatis hominum, aversantium se a veritate.
15. Omnia munda mundis : coinquinatis autem et infidelibus, nihil est mundum, sed inquinatæ sunt eorum et mens et conscientia.
16. Confitentur se nosse Deum, factis autem negant : cum sint abominati, et incredibiles, et ad omne opus bonum reprobi.

1. Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
2. In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
3. But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
4. To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
5. For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
6. If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
7. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8. But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9. Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
10. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
11. Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
12. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
13. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
14. Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
15. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
16. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
