This saying therefore went out among the brothers, that this disciple wouldn't die. Yet Jesus didn't say to him that he wouldn't die, but, "If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you?"

Hebrew על כן יצא הדבר הזה בין האחים כי התלמיד ההוא לא ימות וישוע לא אמר לו כי לא ימות אך אמר אם חפצי כי ישאר עד באי מה זה לך׃
Greek εξηλθεν ουν ουτος ο λογος εις τους αδελφους οτι ο μαθητης εκεινος ουκ αποθνησκει ουκ ειπεν δε αυτω ο ιησους οτι ουκ αποθνησκει αλλ εαν αυτον θελω μενειν εως ερχομαι [[Greek:{VAR2:|{VAR2:]] τι προς σε
Latin Exiit ergo sermo iste inter fratres quia discipulus ille non moritur. Et non dixit ei Jesus : Non moritur, sed : Sic eum volo manere donec veniam, quid ad te ?
KJV Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
