Pope John Paul I (born Albino Luciani; October 17, 1912 – September 28, 1978) is the 264th pope of the Catholic Church. His papacy began on August 26, 1978 and ended with his death just over a month later. His reign was only 33 days long and is among the shortest in Papacy history. His death year, 1978 is the most recent Year of Three Popes.
