| A shrine, from the Latin scrinium (box) is a term describing a "sacred" place dedicated to a "holy" person or object or relic. In Christianity, shrines are commonly used in worship in Roman Catholicism (especially in South America), Eastern Orthodoxy and Oriental Orthodoxy.
