{{bookstudies}}The Exodus was a very significant historical event. It showed God's faithfulness in working to fulfill his promises that he had made to [[Abraham]] 500 years earlier. In this promise, God assured Abraham that his descendents would live in the land of Canaan (modern day Israel and Palestine). It also reaffirmed God's authority, showing the people that he had supremacy over the Egyptian gods. In the process of the Exodus, God brought his people out of slavery, showing them that he was a God of salvation that was given as a free gift of grace.
