Commentary
The This verse in Revelation 3 reveals that although the church in Sardis had a name that appeared by superficial human standards to be, they were good but in fact judged by Christ judges them to be otherwise. The church appeared to have a good reputation, but this image did not truly represent the church. Likewise today, the visible churches are can be seen to be mixtures of the saved and false professors. They are - mixtures of wheat and tares (Matthew 13:36-43) and of good creatures and bad (Matthew 13:47-48).  The church in Sardis includes included those who will would overcome , and those who will would not not. Great Elsewhere in Revelation, great promises are given to the overcomers: "Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels." those who overcome (Revelation 3:4-5): revelationIn general, the church at Sardis carried a good reputation. In their particular lives, there were many who were defiled. As in:revelation "Many will say to me in that dayHowever, LordRevelation, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and elsewhere in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto themthe Bible also warns us about those who appear to be saved, I never knew you: depart from mebut are not, ye that work iniquity".
