A parable is a story that is told to illustrate a religious or moral idea. Jesus often taught using parables. The word is derived from the Greek word Παραβολη (parabole).

In the Gospels, Jesus is shown to have often taught in parables. These were sometimes stories that make a main point (like the Good Samaritan), stories that are allegories (like the parable of the Sower) or simple statements.
