Zacharias (also Zechariah, which is the common spelling in modern English), was a priest of the line of Abijah, during the reign of King Herod the Great. He was the father of John the Baptist and husband of Elizabeth, a woman from the priestly family of Aaron. His story is recorded in the gospel of Luke.
