The original text of Romans 1:2 reads
: ''{{greek_verse|romans|1|2}}''

Paul uses the relative clause `o to link the good news with the Old Testament showing with the participle [[προεπηγγειλατο]] that it was something promised by God in the Holy Scriptures (γραφαις `αγιαις). As such Paul contends that this good news is not something that is new and has come out of the blue but has been revealed in the Scriptures all along.
