Synopsis
Maryland is a state on the east coast of the United States of America. It was founded for the purpose of providing religious toleration of England's Roman Catholic minority. Despite the founding intent of the colony, Catholics have never been in a majority in Maryland since early Colonial times. Around 56% of the population are Protestant, many either Baptist or Methodist, and about 23% are Roman Catholic.
