Verse 16 of [[Luke 23]] is part of the story that [[Jesus]] told to a crowd that included Pharisees to make the point that we only have this life on earth to make our decisions - and we should choose to follow God's way, otherwise we may end up as the rich man who ended up in hell, rather than the beggar named Lazarus who ended up in heaven.
Many Christians agree that Jesus is using figurative language to make a point and that the story is not physically a possibility - that is, there is no way to ''see'' up to heaven from hell, or vice-versa, and there is no way to ''speak'' those in heaven when in hell. Some Christians however do see this story as a literal possibility.
