The Pluperfect Tense is a uncommonly used tense for verbs in Koine Greek. It communicates the concept that an action has occurred in the past, and its effects are no longer present. For example:

• ελελυκειν is translated as "I had destroyed"
• In Luke 16:20, εβεβλητο could be translated as he had been thrown
  • πτωχος δε τις ονοματι λαζαρος εβεβλητο προς τον πυλωνα αυτου ειλκωμενος
  • A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was laid at his gate, full of sores,
