This verse occurs within the [[Sermon on the Mount]]. These words of Jesus emphasize that it is what is in the heart that is important - the action alone is not the sin, but the evil thoughts of the heart are equally wrong.

Some early manuscripts, including bot the [[Codex Sinaiticus]] and [[Codex Vaticanus]] texts. omit the phrase "without cause" from the verse.
