The Kingdom of Bhutan is a mountainous nation situated between India and China. It is a small country with a population of around 700,000. Bhutan is one of the most isolated nations in the world with foreign influences and tourism heavily regulated by the government to preserve its traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture. Mahayana Buddhism is the state religion and there is persecution of followers of other religions. Christians are not allowed to pray ot worship in public, or meet together in house gatherings. Only Buddhist texts are allowed in the country. There are thought to be about 10,000 Christians.
