The Big Bang Theory was proposed by Georges Lemaître in 1927. The theory is an important contribution by Christians to modern science.

The theory encompasses the set of ideas that the world was created instantly with a giant explosion at a very dense point in the universe. There wasn't much evidence to support the theory until the 1970s and 1980s.

Despite commonly being used by Atheists as evidence that Christianity is a fable, the theory has strong Christian roots. Many early Christian thinkers believed that God created the Earth instantly and that Creation as described in Genesis, was a metaphor. Georges Lemaître is the man who first published his theory in the early 1930s, and Lemaître was a Catholic priest.
