Buddha
Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of the [[Buddha]], Siddhārtha Gautama, who lived around 500 years before [[Jesus Christ]]. Originating in [[India]], Buddhism gradually spread throughout [[Asia]] to [[Sri Lanka]], [[Tibet]], [[China]], [[Korea]], and [[Japan]]. The aim of Buddhist practice is to end the suffering of cyclic existence by awakening the practitioner to the realization of "true" reality, the achievement of liberation ([[nirvana]]). A buddhist tries to achieve this through acting according to the laws of [[karma]]: perform positive, wholesome actions and avoid negative, harmful actions.
