Bible translations and distribution for many languages has become a major focus of evangelism in the last few centuries. The development of movable type (a basic form of the printing press) by Johannes Gutenberg in the fifteenth century, and the Protestant Reformation really marked the start of widespread distribution of the Bible. The work of Bible translation and distribution continues today by organization such as the Bible Society. Other organizations such as Gideons International are involved in distributing free Bibles around the world.
