In brief: Elijah (אֱלִיָּהוּ "Whose/my God is the Lord", Standard Hebrew Eliyyáhu) also Elias (NT Greek Ἠλίας) was a prophet in the Old Testament whose message to king Ahab to turn from thte god Baal is recorded in 1 Kings. His name has been translated as "God the Lord", "the strong Lord", "God of the Lord".
