===Modernization===

Verses 11 to 17 use the metaphor of putting on armor to describe the way Christians should prepare themselves to stand against evil. In an attempt to update this metaphor with something more familiar to modern ears, Richard Fleming presented the following paraphrase at the Berowra Uniting Church in 2009:

:''So stand ready, with truth as a seatbelt securely fastened, with your righteousness as your air bag, and your turbo-charged Toyota the readiness to announce the Good News of peace. At all times carry your faith as the anti-virus protection software on your computer; for with it you will be able to intercept the computer viruses sent by the hackers of life who would lead you astray. And accept salvation as a bicycle helmet, and the word of God as the cutting edge Website that the Spirit gives you.''
