===The promises of God===
Genesis 12 begins with God making a promise to Abraham, that he would be blessed, become known as great, and have many descendents that become a great nation. The final part of the God's promise is that all people on earth will be blessed through Abraham. This promise is one of the central sentences in the Bible. The rest of the Old Testament shows how God brings about this promise, culminating in the New Testament with the coming of JesusPesus, a descendent of Abraham, who brings God's love and blessing to the whole world.
