Ekklesia (Ecclessia / Εκκλησια) is a Koine Greek word meaning "gathering" or "assembly".
Use in the New Testament
In the New Testament the word is translated as "church". The word means a body of faithful Christians. It can be used to include not merely the Christians of a particular area, but also to the whole body of Christians, but alive and dead.
