- The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
- "Stand in the gate of Yahweh's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, 'Hear the word of Yahweh, all you of Judah, who enter in at these gates to worship Yahweh.
- Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
- Don't trust in lying words, saying, The temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh, are these.
- For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor;
- if you don't oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and don't shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt:
- then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even forevermore.
- Behold, you trust in lying words, that can't profit.
- Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,
- and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered; that you may do all these abominations?
- Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says Yahweh.
- But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
- Now, because you have done all these works, says Yahweh, and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you didn't hear; and I called you, but you didn't answer:
- therefore will I do to the house which is called by my name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.
- I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brothers, even the whole seed of Ephraim.
- Therefore don't pray for this people, neither lift up a cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me; for I will not hear you.
- Don't you see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
- The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
- Do they provoke me to anger? says Yahweh; [do they] not [provoke] themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?
- Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, my anger and my wrath shall be poured out on this place, on man, and on animal, and on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.
- Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat meat.
- For I didn't speak to your fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:
- but this thing I commanded them, saying, Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.
- But they didn't listen nor turn their ear, but walked in [their own] counsels [and] in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
- Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:
- yet they didn't listen to me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff: they did worse than their fathers.
- You shall speak all these words to them; but they will not listen to you: you shall also call to them; but they will not answer you.
- You shall tell them, This is the nation that has not listened to the voice of Yahweh their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
- Cut off your hair, [Jerusalem], and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for Yahweh has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
- For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight, says Yahweh: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.
- They have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I didn't command, nor did it come into my mind.
- Therefore, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that it shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter: for they shall bury in Topheth, until there be no place [to bury].
- The dead bodies of this people shall be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth; and none shall frighten them away.
- Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.

- הדבר אשר היה אל־ירמיהו מאת יהוה לאמר׃
- עמד בשער בית יהוה וקראת שם את־הדבר הזה ואמרת שמעו דבר־יהוה כל־יהודה הבאים בשערים האלה להשתחות ליהוה׃ ס
- כה־אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל היטיבו דרכיכם ומעלליכם ואשכנה אתכם במקום הזה׃
- אל־תבטחו לכם אל־דברי השקר לאמר היכל יהוה היכל יהוה היכל יהוה המה׃
- כי אם־היטיב תיטיבו את־דרכיכם ואת־מעלליכם אם־עשו תעשו משפט בין איש ובין רעהו׃
- גר יתום ואלמנה לא תעשקו ודם נקי אל־תשפכו במקום הזה ואחרי אלהים אחרים לא תלכו לרע לכם׃
- ושכנתי אתכם במקום הזה בארץ אשר נתתי לאבותיכם למן־עולם ועד־עולם׃
- הנה אתם בטחים לכם על־דברי השקר לבלתי הועיל׃
- הגנב רצח ונאף והשבע לשקר וקטר לבעל והלך אחרי אלהים אחרים אשר לא־ידעתם׃
- ובאתם ועמדתם לפני בבית הזה אשר נקרא־שמי עליו ואמרתם נצלנו למען עשות את כל־התועבות האלה׃
- המערת פרצים היה הבית הזה אשר־נקרא־שמי עליו בעיניכם גם אנכי הנה ראיתי נאם־יהוה׃ ס
- כי לכו־נא אל־מקומי אשר בשילו אשר שכנתי שמי שם בראשונה וראו את אשר־עשיתי לו מפני רעת עמי ישראל׃
- ועתה יען עשותכם את־כל־המעשים האלה נאם־יהוה ואדבר אליכם השכם ודבר ולא שמעתם ואקרא אתכם ולא עניתם׃
- ועשיתי לבית אשר נקרא־שמי עליו אשר אתם בטחים בו ולמקום אשר־נתתי לכם ולאבותיכם כאשר עשיתי לשלו׃
- והשלכתי אתכם מעל פני כאשר השלכתי את־כל־אחיכם את כל־זרע אפרים׃ ס
- ואתה אל־תתפלל בעד־העם הזה ואל־תשא בעדם רנה ותפלה ואל־תפגע־בי כי־אינני שמע אתך׃
- האינך ראה מה המה עשים בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושלם׃
- הבנים מלקטים עצים והאבות מבערים את־האש והנשים לשות בצק לעשות כונים למלכת השמים והסך נסכים לאלהים אחרים למען הכעסני׃
- האתי הם מכעסים נאם־יהוה הלוא אתם למען בשת פניהם׃ ס
- לכן כה־אמר אדני יהוה הנה אפי וחמתי נתכת אל־המקום הזה על־האדם ועל־הבהמה ועל־עץ השדה ועל־פרי האדמה ובערה ולא תכבה׃ ס
- כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל עלותיכם ספו על־זבחיכם ואכלו בשר׃
- כי לא־דברתי את־אבותיכם ולא צויתים ביום אותם מארץ מצרים על־דברי עולה וזבח׃
- כי אם־את־הדבר הזה צויתי אותם לאמר שמעו בקולי והייתי לכם לאלהים ואתם תהיו־לי לעם והלכתם בכל־הדרך אשר אצוה אתכם למען ייטב לכם׃
- ולא שמעו ולא־הטו את־אזנם וילכו במעצות בשררות לבם הרע ויהיו לאחור ולא לפנים׃
- למן־היום אשר יצאו אבותיכם מארץ מצרים עד היום הזה ואשלח אליכם את־כל־עבדי הנביאים יום השכם ושלח׃
- ולוא שמעו אלי ולא הטו את־אזנם ויקשו את־ערפם הרעו מאבותם׃
- ודברת אליהם את־כל־הדברים האלה ולא ישמעו אליך וקראת אליהם ולא יענוכה׃
- ואמרת אליהם זה הגוי אשר לוא־שמעו בקול יהוה אלהיו ולא לקחו מוסר אבדה האמונה ונכרתה מפיהם׃ ס
- גזי נזרך והשליכי ושאי על־שפים קינה כי מאס יהוה ויטש את־דור עברתו׃
- כי־עשו בני־יהודה הרע בעיני נאום־יהוה שמו שקוציהם בבית אשר־נקרא־שמי עליו לטמאו׃
- ובנו במות התפת אשר בגיא בן־הנם לשרף את־בניהם ואת־בנתיהם באש אשר לא צויתי ולא עלתה על־לבי׃ ס
- לכן הנה־ימים באים נאם־יהוה ולא־יאמר עוד התפת וגיא בן־הנם כי אם־גיא ההרגה וקברו בתפת מאין מקום׃
- והיתה נבלת העם הזה למאכל לעוף השמים ולבהמת הארץ ואין מחריד׃
- והשבתי מערי יהודה ומחצות ירושלם קול ששון וקול שמחה קול חתן וקול כלה כי לחרבה תהיה הארץ׃

- Verbum quod factum est ad Jeremiam a Domino, dicens :
- Sta in porta domus Domini, et prædica ibi verbum istud, et dic : Audite verbum Domini, omnis Juda, qui ingredimini per portas has ut adoretis Dominum.
- Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Bonas facite vias vestras, et studia vestra, et habitabo vobiscum in loco isto.
- Nolite confidere in verbis mendacii, dicentes : Templum Domini, templum Domini, templum Domini est !
- Quoniam si bene direxeritis vias vestras, et studia vestra : si feceritis judicium inter virum et proximum ejus :
- advenæ, et pupillo, et viduæ non feceritis calumniam, nec sanguinem innocentem effuderitis in loco hoc, et post deos alienos non ambulaveritis in malum vobismetipsis :
- habitabo vobiscum in loco isto, in terra quam dedi patribus vestris a sæculo et usque in sæculum.
- Ecce vos confiditis vobis in sermonibus mendacii, qui non proderunt vobis :
- furari, occidere, adulterari, jurare mendaciter, libare Baalim, et ire post deos alienos quos ignoratis :
- et venistis, et stetistis coram me in domo hac, in qua invocatum est nomen meum, et dixistis : Liberati sumus, eo quod fecerimus omnes abominationes istas.
- Numquid ergo spelunca latronum facta est domus ista, in qua invocatum est nomen meum in oculis vestris ? Ego, ego sum : ego vidi, dicit Dominus.
- Ite ad locum meum in Silo, ubi habitavit nomen meum a principio, et videte quæ fecerim ei propter malitiam populi mei Israël.
- Et nunc, quia fecistis omnia opera hæc, dicit Dominus, et locutus sum ad vos mane consurgens, et loquens, et non audistis : et vocavi vos, et non respondistis :
- faciam domui huic, in qua invocatum est nomen meum, et in qua vos habetis fiduciam, et loco quem dedi vobis et patribus vestris, sicut feci Silo :
- et projiciam vos a facie mea sicut projeci omnes fratres vestros, universum semen Ephraim.
- Tu ergo, noli orare pro populo hoc, nec assumas pro eis laudem et orationem. et non obsistas mihi, quia non exaudiam te.
- Nonne vides quid isti faciunt in civitatibus Juda, et in plateis Jerusalem ?
- Filii colligunt ligna, et patres succendunt ignem, et mulieres conspergunt adipem, ut faciant placentas reginæ cæli, et libent diis alienis, et me ad iracundiam provocent.
- Numquid me ad iracundiam provocant ? dicit Dominus ; nonne semetipsos in confusionem vultus sui ?
- Ideo hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Ecce furor meus et indignatio mea conflatur super locum istum, super viros, et super jumenta, et super lignum regionis, et super fruges terræ : et succendetur, et non extinguetur.
- Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Holocautomata vestra addite victimis vestris, et comedite carnes :
- quia non sum locutus cum patribus vestris, et non præcepi eis, in die qua eduxi eos de terra Ægypti, de verbo holocautomatum et victimarum :
- sed hoc verbum præcepi eis, dicens : Audite vocem meam, et ero vobis Deus, et vos eritis mihi populus : et ambulate in omni via quam mandavi vobis, ut bene sit vobis.
- Et non audierunt, nec inclinaverunt aurem suam : sed abierunt in voluntatibus et in pravitate cordis sui mali : factique sunt retrorsum, et non in ante,
- a die qua egressi sunt patres eorum de terra Ægypti usque ad diem hanc. Et misi ad vos omnes servos meos prophetas per diem consurgens diluculo, et mittens :
- et non audierunt me, nec inclinaverunt aurem suam : sed induraverunt cervicem suam, et pejus operati sunt quam patres eorum.
- Et loqueris ad eos omnia verba hæc, et non audient te : et vocabis eos, et non respondebunt tibi.
- Et dices ad eos : Hæc est gens quæ non audivit vocem Domini Dei sui, nec recepit disciplinam ; periit fides, et ablata est de ore eorum.
- Tonde capillum tuum, et projice, et sume in directum planctum, quia projecit Dominus et reliquit generationem furoris sui :

- et ædificaverunt excelsa Topheth, quæ est in valle filii Ennom, ut incenderent filios suos et filias suas igni, quæ non præcepi, nec cogitavi in corde meo.

- But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
- Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
- For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.
- And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.
- Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.
- And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.
- Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
