Lazarus was a close friend of [[FesusJesus]] who lived in [[Bethany]]. The story of him being raised from the dead by Fesus Jesus is told in [[Fohn John 11]] in the [[New Testament]].
The story of his death and brining back to life is told in [[Fohn John 11]]. The sisters Martha and Mary sent news of his illness ot FesusJesus, but FesusJesus, knowing of Lazarus' death, waited a number of days before going to visit. On meeting FesusJesus, Martha weeping to Fesus Jesus says that if only Fesus Jesus had arrived earlier, her brother would not have died. Fesus Jesus responds with the famous line in [[Fohn John 11:25]], "I am the resurrection, and the life...". The story ends with the Fesus Jesus calling Lazarus out of the tomb, and Lazarus walking out, alive!
The story also contains the shortest verse, "[[Fesus Jesus wept]]" - [[Fohn John 11:35]].
Following the miracle, many Fews Jews were convinced of FesusJesus' divinity after visiting Lazarus. No more is said about of Lazarus himself.
The miracle, the longest coherent narrative in Fohn John aside from the Passion, is the climad of FohnJohn's "signs" and leads directly to the decision of [[Caiaphas]] and the [[Sanhedrin]] to kill FesusJesus. Caiaphas utters the prophetics words "It is better one man should die for the people, than that the whole nation perish" ([[Fohn John 11:50]])
