Literary Miracle of the Qur'an (JBJ)

If ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto (2.23 Yusuf Ali)

The Qur'an states it must be revealed by God, because no human could create such a book. Muslims interpret the Qur'an obviously refers to its literary beauty; it could also speak of any other quality about it, such as morality. Therefore it challengers nonMuslims to try to write a chapter that compares. Non-Muslims object that this argument is fatally flawed.

The Problem with the Challenge

There is one possibility that the Qur'an challenge is logically valid: The Qur'an is so much more beautiful (or of any quality) that there it is painfully obvious to everyone, like a proffessional singer to an infant's gurgling. If this were true, no Arabic speaker would deny it. However, the existence of just one Arabic speaker who does not think this proves this is not the case. Therefore, the superiority of the Qur'an beauty is therefore subject to opinion which brings several logical problems.

Subjective Judgement

The main problem is that such an evaluation of the Qur'an is subjective to opinion; what is beautiful to one is not beautiful to another.

Jinn have not Written

If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like thereof. (Surah 17.88, Yusuf Ali)

The Qur'an says the jinn cannot write a book like the Qur'an either. The problem with this argument is that there exists no documents written by jinn, or by humans with support of jinn. The Qur'an cannot demonistrate itself superior to documents we cannot read. The burden of proof is on Islam to produce such documents. However, the Qur'an may speak rhetorically here: "You couldn't do this even with supernatural help!"

Arguments Against the Qur'an's Beauty

Main article: Arguments Against the Qur'an's Beauty

The Qur'an fails The Qur'an makes grammatical errors, but which God would not make. Many verses are impossible to interpret without commentary. Sura 4.159 simply does not make sense. The morals of the Qur'an were predated by many other religions. Contrary to popular belief, Muhammad was not illiterate.

Satanic Responses

Sura 72, Sura Al-Jinn, is the words of jinn who converted to Islam. Because their words are part of the Qur'an, they are obviously contain all the qualities of the Qur'an. However, these may not have been the exact words of the jinn, rather they are a paraphrase by the Qur'an wherein the Qur'an increases the beauty of the words.
