I've simplified the side-bar a little. We can change it back easily if people don't like it so simple. --Muser 02:48, 12 July 2008 (PDT)

Random article

What do you think? Should we have the Random article in the side-bar? I not sure it serves a useful purpose in WikiChristian, particularly since it is usually going to land on a Bible verse. What are people's votes? My vote is let's remove it. --Graham grove 09:39, 23 July 2008 (PDT)

I have no problem with the removal of it. I just thought it would help a visitor navigate WikiChristian better, even if it does lead to bible verses. Who knows? A visitor may just want to read random bible verses. Heh, heh. Thanks, Ryan†Cross (talk) 11:20, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
That's a fair point about people wanting to read a random Bible verse. Let's hear what others think. Thanks. --Graham grove 11:36, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
Let me supply a technical point: What is there was a way to separate out all the verses and have Random-Verse and Random-Article? Such a thing is possible, but would involve us deliberately making the Bible system here along very certain lines. Would that be desirable? --Aquatiki 11:54, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
That would be nice, but could we even accomplish doing that? I don't think it's possible. -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 11:57, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
Well, I didn't want to get into technical minutiae, but you asked for it! We would need to put all the verse pages into their own namespace. This would mean would wouldn't have John 3:16 but Bible:John 3:16. Then you could go to [[Special:Random/Bible]]. Right now, if you go to Special:Random, it takes you somewhere new in the main namespace. You can test drive this right now my going to Special:Random/Template and seeing a random template. --Aquatiki 12:11, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
I know it is possible, but it's not possible now. By the way, that would take a lot of work to do... not to mention deleting all the other pages (which I think is what we do after). -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 12:13, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
You should see our discussion over on WikiChristian:Bible (Graham G's and mine). We're contemplating doing a major overhaul. Graham saw what I'd done on my own wiki ([1]) and asked me to come over here and contribute in our little ecumenical circle! Anyway, if we plan now, we can use bots to do all the leg work for us. --Aquatiki 12:19, 23 July 2008 (PDT)

Yeah, I suppose the bots will do it for us. I'll take a look at WikiChristian:Bible. And by the way, User:P.B. Pilhet is an administrator and bureaucrat here. ;) -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 12:24, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
Thank you, Ryan ;) As for the random article feature, my preference would be to leave it up. But whatever the community as a whole wants is fine with me :) -- P.B. Pilhet / Talk 17:10, 23 July 2008 (PDT)
