Romans 13 Text (WEB) Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same, for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience' sake. For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God's service, attending continually on this very thing. Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor. Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not give false testimony," "You shall not covet," and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love doesn't harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law. Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let's therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let's put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
Romans 13 Text (Hebrew) כל נפש תכנע לגדלת הרשיות כי אין רשות כי אם מאת האלהים והרשיות הנמצאות על יד אלהים נתמנו׃ לכן כל המתקומם לרשות מרד הוא בצווי האלהים והמרדים ישאו את דינם׃ כי השליטים אינם לפחד למעשים הטובים כי אם להרעים ועל כן אם רצונך שלא תירא מן הרשות עשה הטוב והיה לך שבח ממנה׃ כי משמשת אלהים היא לטוב לך אך אם הרע תעשה ירא כי לא לחנם חגרת חרב היא כי משמשת אלהים היא נקמת בקצף מכל עשה הרע׃ על כן עלינו להכנע לא לבד בעבור הקצף כי גם בעבור דעת חובתנו׃ כי לזאת אף משלמים אתם את המס כי משרתי אלהים המה השקדים על זאת׃ לכן תנו לכל איש כחובתכם המס לאשר לו המס המכס לאשר לו המכס והמורא לאשר לו המורא והכבוד לאשר לו הכבוד׃ ואל תהיו חיבים לאיש דבר זולתי אהבת איש את רעהו כי האהב את חברו קים את התורה׃ כי מצות לא תנאף לא תרצח לא תגנב לא תענה עד שקר לא תחמד ועוד כאלה כלולות הנה במאמר הזה ואהבת לרעך כמוך׃ האהבה לא תרע לרע על כן האהבה קיום התורה כלה׃ וכזאת עשו מדעתכם את הזמן כי כבר הגיעה השעה להקיץ מן השנה כי ישועתנו קרובה עתה מהיום אשר באנו להאמין׃ הלילה חלף והיום קרב לכן נסירה נא את מעשי החשך ונלבשה את כלי נשק האור׃ וכמו ביום נתהלכה בצניעות לא בזוללות ובשכרון ולא בבעילות ועשות זמה ולא במריבה וקנאה׃ כי אם לבשו את האדון ישוע המשיח ודאגו לבשרכם אך לא להגביר התאות׃
Romans 13 Text (Greek) πασα ψυχη εξουσιαις υπερεχουσαις υποτασσεσθω ου γαρ εστιν εξουσια ει μη υπο θεου αι δε ουσαι υπο θεου τεταγμεναι εισιν ωστε ο αντιτασσομενος τη εξουσια τη του θεου διαταγη ανθεστηκεν οι δε ανθεστηκοτες εαυτοις κριμα λημψονται οι γαρ αρχοντες ουκ εισιν φοβος τω αγαθω εργω αλλα τω κακω θελεις δε μη φοβεισθαι την εξουσιαν το αγαθον ποιει και εξεις επαινον εξ αυτης θεου γαρ διακονος εστιν σοι εις το αγαθον εαν δε το κακον ποιης φοβου ου γαρ εικη την μαχαιραν φορει θεου γαρ διακονος εστιν εκδικος εις οργην τω το κακον πρασσοντι διο αναγκη υποτασσεσθαι ου μονον δια την οργην αλλα και δια την συνειδησιν δια τουτο γαρ και φορους τελειτε λειτουργοι γαρ θεου εισιν εις αυτο τουτο προσκαρτερουντες αποδοτε πασιν τας οφειλας τω τον φορον τον φορον τω το τελος το τελος τω τον φοβον τον φοβον τω την τιμην την τιμην μηδενι μηδεν οφειλετε ει μη το αλληλους αγαπαν ο γαρ αγαπων τον ετερον νομον πεπληρωκεν το γαρ ου μοιχευσεις ου φονευσεις ου κλεψεις ουκ επιθυμησεις και ει τις ετερα εντολη εν τω λογω τουτω ανακεφαλαιουται αγαπησεις τον πλησιον σου ως σεαυτον η αγαπη τω πλησιον κακον ουκ εργαζεται πληρωμα ουν νομου η αγαπη και τουτο ειδοτες τον καιρον οτι ωρα ηδη υμας εξ υπνου εγερθηναι νυν γαρ εγγυτερον ημων η σωτηρια η οτε επιστευσαμεν η νυξ προεκοψεν η δε ημερα ηγγικεν αποθωμεθα ουν τα εργα του σκοτους ενδυσωμεθα τα οπλα του φωτος ως εν ημερα ευσχημονως περιπατησωμεν μη κωμοις και μεθαις μη κοιταις και ασελγειαις μη εριδι και ζηλω αλλα ενδυσασθε τον κυριον ιησουν χριστον και της σαρκος προνοιαν μη ποιεισθε εις επιθυμιας
Romans 13 Text (Latin) Omnis anima potestatibus sublimioribus subdita sit : non est enim potestas nisi a Deo : quæ autem sunt, a Deo ordinatæ sunt. Itaque qui resistit potestati, Dei ordinationi resistit. Qui autem resistunt, ipsi sibi damnationem acquirunt : nam principes non sunt timori boni operis, sed mali. Vis autem non timere potestatem ? Bonum fac : et habebis laudem ex illa : Dei enim minister est tibi in bonum. Si autem malum feceris, time : non enim sine causa gladium portat. Dei enim minister est : vindex in iram ei qui malum agit. Ideo necessitate subditi estote non solum propter iram, sed etiam propter conscientiam. Ideo enim et tributa præstatis : ministri enim Dei sunt, in hoc ipsum servientes. Reddite ergo omnibus debita : cui tribulatum, tributum : cui vectigal, vectigal : cui timorem, timorem : cui honorem, honorem. Nemini quidquam debeatis, nisi ut invicem diligatis : qui enim diligit proximum, legem implevit. Nam : non adultaberis : non occides : non furaberis : non falsum testimonium dices : non concupisces : et si quod est aliud mandatum, in hoc verbo instauratur : diliges proximum tuum sicut teipsum. Dilectio proximi malum non operatur. Plenitudo ergo legis est dilectio. Et hoc scientes tempus : quia hora est jam nos de somno surgere. Nunc enim propior est nostra salus, quam cum credidimus. Nox præcessit, dies autem appropinquavit. Abjiciamus ergo opera tenebrarum, et induamur arma lucis. Sicut in die honeste ambulemus : non in comessationibus, et ebrietatibus, non in cubilibus, et impudicitiis, non in contentione, et æmulatione : sed induamini Dominum Jesum Christum, et carnis curam ne feceritis in desideriis.
Romans 13 Text (KJV) Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
