The latin [[Latin]] word ''sacramentum'' (holy sign) was used in secular latin [[Latin]] for the military oath oaths of allegiance. Its religious usage use was introduced by [[Augustine of Hippo|Augustine]]. In his latin [[Jerome]]'s [[Latin ]] translation of the Bible, the [[Vulgata]], [[Jerome]] translated the Greek word [[mysterion partially with ]] as [[sacramentum]] in some cases, partially with and as [[mysterium]] in other cases.
