In Chronicles the blessings and [[grace]] of [[God]] toward [[David]], as establisher of the Temple worship, and his successors on the throne of [[Judah]] , are set forth, down to the Exile. The kings of [[Israel]] are almost completely ignored in this book, which is in complete contrast to I and II Kings, which interweave the history of the dual kingdom.

These genealogies are given to show that the Chronicles are dealing with the true chosen people, descended through [[Abraham]], and destined to be the line through whom the [[Messiah]] was to come. Most of the genealogies are incomplete, with many breaks in the list, but the main line is there; those which are significant to the accomplishment of [[God]]'s purpose.
