(Ezra 6:2), called [[Text:EBD:Ecbatana (EBD)|Ecbatana]] by classical writers, the capital of northern [[Text:EBD:Media (EBD)|Media]]. Here was the [[Text:EBD:Palace (EBD)|palace]] which was the residence of the old Median monarchs, and of [[Text:EBD:Cyrus (EBD)|Cyrus]] and [[Text:EBD:wikipedia:Cambyses|Cambyses]]. In the time of [[Ezra (EBD)|Ezra]], the [[Text:EBD:Persia (EBD)|Persian]] [[Text:EBD:King (EBD)|kings]] resided usually at [[Text:EBD:Wikipedia:Susa|Susa]] of [[Babylon (EBD)|Babylon]]. But Cyrus held his court at Achmetha; and Ezra, writing a century after, correctly mentions the place where the decree of Cyrus was found.
