On the [[Text:EBD:Death|death]] of his grandfather [[Text:EBD:Eli|Eli]] he succeeded to the office of [[Text:EBD:High priest|high priest]], and was himself succeeded by his son [[Text:EBD:Ahijah|Ahijah]] (1 Sam. 14:3; 22:9, 11, 12, 20).
