(Heb. shekar'), an intoxicating liquor (Judg. 13:4; Luke 1:15; Isa. 5:11; Micah 2:11) distilled from corn, honey, or dates. The effects of the use of strong drink are referred to in Ps. 107:27; Isa. 24:20; 49:26; 51:17-22. Its use prohibited, Prov. 20:1. (See WINE.)

US Surgeon General Warning

USA law requires this warning to be shown on all beer, wine, spirits, etc (Alcoholic Beverage Labeling Act 1988):-

GOVERNMENT WARNING: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects.
(2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.

Some of the countries which had notified the World Health Organization by 2016 that they have health warning labels on alcohol containers[1] are France, Greece, India, Israel, Japan, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, South Africa, Türkiye, United States of America.

Readers in Canada, Ireland and the UK may be unaware of the risks.
