Vatican City (officially Vatican City State) is a country that is completely landlocked by Rome in Italy. It was preceded by the Papal States which were crushed by 1870, leaving the Vatican to be the last territory controlled by the Holy See. The Vatican became a state once more on February 11, 1929 when Benito Mussolini compromised with the Pope regarding the situation.
The country has a rich history, but it ties into the Bible by being the site of which many Christians were martyred: including St. Peter who was crucified upside down in Modern-day Vatican.
