===Contents Tree Structure===
* '''Contents page''' of a topic

** '''Why have contents pages? Why not make this like wikipedia?''' These are reasonable questions. If you are creating a page for a topic, you do not need to make a contents page. There are many advantages to a contents page for the topic however, including:

*** The page doesn't get absolutely enormous

*** People can write specific sub-page that contain opinions

*** If this was only meant to be an encyclopedia, then Wikipedia would suffice, and there would be no need for WikiChristian - having a contents page allows this to be more a text-book and forum for discussion than a plain encyclopedia

** '''How to lay-out a contents page?''' If creatining or editing a contents page, one standardized approach could be as follows (for an example see the [[Grace]] contents page)

*** Start with a famous quote or a Bible quote

*** Then have a brief 2 or 3 sentence summary or definition of the subject

*** Then have a sub-heading '''Definitions / explanations''' followed by links to specific articles defining or explaining the topic

*** Then have a sub-heading '''Articles / opinions''' followed by (1) a link where people can write short comments and opinions about the topic and (2) links of longer opinion articles

*** Then have a sub-heading '''Quotes''' followed by links for famous quotes about the topic, and Bible quotes about the topic

*** Then have other miscellaneous sub-headings, depending on the topic, these may include: Travel stories, Testimonies, Songs about, Famous people etc...

"Stub" pages that need work

There are plenty of pages that have only minimal content and require a lot of work. A link to the list of stubs can be found here: Stub

Starting A New Page

New pages can be created by following a link to a nonexistent page ("red link") or by editing the last part of the URL of another page in the same project. It is useful to create a page by following a link, or create links to the new page right after creating the page, to avoid the new page being isolated. You can search for any existing articles with the same or similar content and create a new page if none exists. In order to create a new page, go to any relevant existing pages, and enclose the word or words in double square brackets [[like this]] and the link will be displayed like this

You can test your editing skills in sand box.

Style

When editing or creating a page, there are no set guidelines as to what the page should look like or how it should be laid out. The following are some ideas, but are not prescriptive rules that need to be followed

Contents Tree Structure

One way to arrange pages is to follow the "Contents Tree Structure". In this style, the main page will have a brief summary (with or without a relevant famous quote) of the topic followed by links to

  • The main "overview" article - this is an article that deals with the topic in a neutral point of view, encyclopedia style, such as that found in wikipedia
  • A "topics" heading following which are a list of related sub-topics
  • An opinion section - this is an area to place links to personal opinion articles
  • A "quotes" article - where quotes about the topic can be quoted
  • A links section - this is an area to place links to external websites
  • Finally, a "Return to" section to link the topic back to a broader, encompassing topic

Various templates are employed for pages using this system.

Below is an example of what a page using this structure may look like (Justification)

For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:12

Justification is the work of God where the righteousness of Jesus is reckoned to the sinner so the sinner is declared by God as being righteous under the Law. (Read more)

  • The neutral point of view encyclopedia style article using "(overview)"
  • Personal opinion articles
  • It is quick and easy to find related topics
  • It allows for additional pages such as testimonies, song lyrics, travel stories and so on where appropriate
