"Growing Kids God's Way" is a controversial parenting program developed by Gary Ezzo.[1]

Criticisms

Growing Kids God's Way has been criticized on a number of different fronts.

Theological Criticisms

The course prides itself on teaching a child quickly that the world does not revolve around him, and this, critics say "translates too easily into parenting goals conceived out of selfishness" which is actually opposite to God's sacrificial pattern of fatherhood.[2]

Physiological and Psychological Criticisms

A number of critics have also suggested that Ezzo's regulated feeding times and controlled-crying methods are both psychologically damaging and unsafe medically for a baby's healthy development.[3]

Positives

Despite these criticisms the course maintains a high level of popularity among Christians having been run at thousands of churches. [4]

Kevin Huggins, arguing against parenting in the manner portayed by Growing Kids God's Way

Christ's death was his profound expression of self-denial and self-sacrifice, the same elements a parent must express if he is to be relationally mature (highly involved with and responsive toward his kids)
