Stephen was a Christian whose story is told in the [[Book of Acts]]. He was stoned to death because of accusations of blasphemy, described in [[Acts 7]]. The [[apostle Paul]] (Saul) was present at Stephen's death, giving approval to it. Following his death, which probably occurred some time around [[33 AD]], the Jews of the early church became dispersed throughout Judea, Samaria and their Diaspora homelands, taking the gospel with them.

Stephen reveals in his speech his understanding that God does not live in man-made buildings, but inside the heart of man.

So this persecution resulted in expansion of the early church.

CityLife Church (CityLife), formerly Waverley Christian Fellowship (WCF) originated with a small group of people meeting together to learn about God. From this beginning in 1967, the church has grown and become home to hundreds of Christians from a variety of backgrounds, age groups and cultures.

The founding pastor of CityLife, Richard Holland, led the church as it gradually outgrew a number of different venues in the Waverley area. Richard, who is recognised for his tremendous faith and vision, was to see the realisation of his dream to establish a permanent home for the church when the present site was purchased in 1982 and building commenced. It was at this time that Kevin Conner and his family returned to Melbourne after 10 years in the USA. Kevin joined the church staff and together with Richard saw the church continue to grow.

In 1983, the Parkmore Full Gospel Church and its Christian School merged with WCF . Now known as Waverley Christian College and located on the church property, the school has grown and developed to become a vital part of the church's ministry.

In 1986, Richard Holland handed the church of approximately 600 people to Kevin Conner who took up the position as Senior Minister. Kevin is recognised internationally for his teaching ministry and has written many textbooks which have benefited both ministers and students. Under his leadership the church continued to expand, a variety of ministries were developed, four branch churches were commenced and the church building complex was further extended.

In February of 1995, Mark Conner, Kevin's son, was appointed Senior Minister. He has a strong preaching/teaching ministry and is a gifted musician and worship leader. Mark and the leadership team are committed to "raising up fervent followers of Jesus Christ who will reach out and impact communities, cities and nations for the kingdom of God".

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that next time you revert vandalism, make sure you don't just blank the page; if you do that, then all the work previously made on that page will be erased, and someone has to go back and revert again to the last non-vandalised version. If only one vandal edit has been made to the page, just use the "undo" button found in the page's history. If two or more vandal edits have been made to the same page, then:

#Click "History" at the top of the article,
#Click the date of the last non-vandalised version,
#Click "edit the page" when the page opens,
#Type in an edit summary such as "reverted vandalism" and then click save.

Hi Kathleen,

Again, sorry for the delayed response :) I think the problem with the Template Category showing up on articles is because, since the whole template is transcluded, the categories are moved onto the articles as well. The way to fix it would be to go to the ''template'' page and put the following code around the category link:

<code><nowiki><noinclude>[[Catgeory:NAME]]</noinclude></nowiki></code>

Whatever is between the two "no include" tags will not be transcluded to the articles the template is used on. I tried it with [[WikiChristian:Video of the day]] and it worked; the main page is no longer in the video of the day category :)

Now, I know on your Wikipedia user page it says you do not want to be an admin, but I think you could really help out here with the extra tools (working on the protected templates, deleting all the spam articles you're always coming across, etc.). Would you like me to make you a sysop?

The only thing that may seem difficult at first is blocking; but if you follow the instructions at [[Special:Blockip]], you'll get it :) Reading the various admin-related pages on Wikipedia obviously couldn't ''hurt'', though. I'm not sure how to fix the template problem at the CKB, but I'll look into it. Anyways, thanks for those sites you recommended :)

This ones not hard to defute. The New World Translation (Jehova's Witnesses Bible) was translated by the Watchtower, a religious leadership committee for the denomination. The translators claimed to have translated the texts directly from the original Greek and Hebrew texts. However, the group's translators were tested, and they failed to even know a single letter in the Greek alphabet. That right there should tell you their Bible is not trustworthy, not to mention it contradicts itself numerous times in order to defend the denomination's false doctrines.

This one's pretty easy too. Mr. Mormon claimed to have had a revelation from God that told him to write the Book of Mormon. That right there proves him wrong as the Bible states in Revelation that no man is to add or take away from the Bible. Therefore God would not contradict Himself and ask Mormon to add to the Bible. Also, many of the doctrines found in the Book of Mormon completely abolish many foundational Christian beliefs (such as the deity of Christ and the fact that we can never be equal to Jesus). So, this "new testament of Jesus" is completely untrustworthy.

I believe that God does directly take a part in creating each of us at conception. To say He doesn't is the same as saying He doesn't interact with any of His creation. It is as if your saying He has nothing to do with any of creation besides having created it. That's totally against Christian doctrine. This in turn means that God does not make gay people at birth, thus changing my entire point of view. I believe that not only the act of gay sex, but also the act of having affection towards one's own gender is a sin. This by no means that gays can't be Christian, just that they have a sin they need to repent of (as we all do). I hate homosexuality, but I don't hate homosexuals. The only things we are to hate are things from the devil himself. I believe gays should be allowed in the Church, but they should not be in any position of office as I believe they are not spiritually fit to hold the office. Few people are, gay or straight. I disagree with allowing gays to marry. First off, it's not Biblical marriage, and second off, it gives them the legal encouragement to have sex. Thus I am against same sex marriage.

Michael W. Smith is a well known Christian singer and song-writer. He was born in 1957 in [[West Virginia]]. Some of his well known songs include [[Healing Rain (song)|Healing Rain]] and [[Missing Person (song)|Missing Person]].

Since his first solo project in 1983, Smith has become one of the most popular artists in the [[Contemporary Christian Music]] world, while also finding considerable success in the mainstream. Smith has frequently topped both Christian radio and Billboard charts, and is often listed as one of the top keyboardists in rock and roll in Keyboard Magazine. Smith had sold more than seven million records and had 25 #1 hit songs. By 2003, he had 10 gold records and 3 platinum records.

By the time Smith graduated from high school, he had found himself with serious drug and alcohol abuse problems. Nevertheless, he was able to get through a couple of years of college and develop his songwriting skills with various local bands. In October of 1979, Smith suffered an emotional and mental breakdown that awakened a recommitment to the Christian beliefs of his childhood. He cleaned up his substance abuse problem and began playing keyboards for the CCM group, [[Higher Ground]].

In 1981, Smith was signed as a writer to Meadowgreen Music, where he racked up a number of highly successful gospel hits penned for artists like [[Sandi Patty]], [[Kathy Troccoli]], [[Bill Gaither]] and [[Amy Grant]]. The following year, Smith began touring as a keyboardist for Grant on her Age to Age tour. He would eventually become Grant's opening act, and recorded his first Grammy nominated solo album, Michael W. Smith Project (which he also produced), in 1983, on the Reunion label, a label started by Grant's brother-in-law, Dan Harrell, along with Michael Blanton.

By the time Smith's second pop album was released in 1984, he was headlining his own tours. In 1986, Smith released the critically acclaimed rock effort The Big Picture, with well known record producer Johnny Potoker (Brian Eno, Genesis, Madonna, No Doubt, Talking Heads, etc).

After the release of his 1988 effort, I 2 eye, Smith once again teamed up with Amy Grant for her "Lead Me On World Tour". The following year, Smith recorded his first Christmas album.

In 1990, Smith released Go West Young Man, which was his first real mainstream effort. That album was followed by 1992's Change Your World, 1995's I'll Lead You Home and 1998's Live The Life. Also in 1998, Smith released his second Christmas effort, Christmastime. In 1999, Smith released This Is Your Time, largely inspired by the Columbine shootings. Smith had been asked to perform at some of the memorial services that were held in honor of the victims, which made a huge impression on Smith.

In 1996, Smith opened his own record label (although he does not record on it), Rocketown Records, named for a teen club which he established for Christian youth in the Nashville area. He states the label is driven by the artists, and one of its first artists signed was Chris Rice, who had written "Go Light Your World," a #1 hit song by Kathy Troccoli, in 1995.

Nearly all of Smith's albums contain at least one instrumental track, and in 2000, Smith recorded his first all instrumental album, Freedom. The following year, Smith released an all praise and worship album, called Worship, which was followed by a sequel, Worship Again. Both albums were recorded live in concert. A Worship Again DVD was released in 2002, which immediately topped the Billboard video charts.

After two decades, Smith finally won the coveted Male Vocalist of the Year award at the [[Dove Awards]] in 2003.

Smith's latest album, "Healing Rain" was released in 2004. It combines the pop style of his previous recordings with the praise and worship feel of his two releases in that genre. The title track was the first released as a single, and Smith has recently recorded a music video to coincide with the song.

Amazing Grace is probably one of the best known [[hymn]]s in the world today. It is especially popular in the [[United States]]. The words tell of the [[grace]] of [[God]] - the gift of forgiveness and life that he gives to us freely.

The hymn was written by [[John Newton]], an English man who was born in 1725. As a young man he was captain of a ship that was used for slave-trading. During one voyage he cried out to God for mercy as the ship was tossed about in a storm. His ship was spared and John Newton began his walk towards [[Christ]]. He continued to be a slave trader for some years but there was a slow transformation and within the next 20 years Newton had given up this life and had become the parish priest of Olney, a village near London. Whilst here he wrote the the words to the famous hymn, Amazing Grace.

Whitecross is a [[Christian metal]] band that formed in [[1986]] in [[Chicago]], releasing their first recording the following year. Their early albums, which often invite comparisons to [[Ratt]], are laced with fast, technical [[electric guitar|guitar]] work. With the departure of guitarist [[Rex Carroll]] in [[1992]], the band's sound underwent a drastic change; so much so that many Whitecross fans show a strong preference for either the earlier or later work exclusively.

Red is a Christian alternative metal band from Nashville, Tennessee, signed to Essential Records. The band's first album, End of Silence (released June 6th, 2006), includes the singles "Breathe Into Me" and "Already Over."

Red's music is characterized by heavy, angst-asserting instrumentation (à la nu metal), and backing piano, strings, and industrial beats. This technique is often compared to Linkin Park; one member states that "it is fine with us to be compared to Linkin Park, who sold 27 million albums last year."

Hawk Nelson is a punk band hailing from Peterborough, Ontario. The band has become popular on the Christian music scene and also The Secular rock scene, and was voted "Favorite New Artist" by CCM Magazine in their February 2006 Reader's Choice Awards.

The band played independently in Ontario for a few years before they signed with Tooth & Nail Records, largely on the recommendation of Trevor McNevan, the lead singer of fellow Tooth & Nail band Thousand Foot Krutch. McNevan, also from Peterborough, is credited with discovering the band. In July of 2004, Hawk Nelson released their major label debut Letters to the President. It was produced by Aaron Sprinkle and McNevan, who also co-wrote nine of the album's fourteen songs. They won GMA Canada Covenant Award [1] for Modern Rock/Alternative Album of the Year in 2006.

The band has achieved some success in the mainstream as well. They portrayed The Who on an episode of the NBC drama American Dreams, and they recorded a song named "Bring 'Em Out" for the 2005 motion picture Yours, Mine, and Ours. "Things We Go Through" from Letters to the President was also featured in Yours, Mine, and Ours.

In October of 2005, the band re-released Letters to the President, with new material including their cover of The Who's My Generation, three acoustic versions of some of their hits, and a limited edition cover.

The band released their second studio album, titled Smile, It's The End of the World, on April 4th, 2006. The song "Is Forever Enough", featured the guest voice of Trevor McNevan. The album's first single, "Everything You Ever Wanted", went on to hit #1 for 9 weeks on the R&R Christian CHR chart, and was the fourth most played song of 2006. <ref>As played on the January 7 2007 Weekend 22</ref> The band spent the summer of 2006 touring the major Christian music festivals, and also took part in Jeremy Camp's Beyond Measure tour. Demon Hunter has a number of musical influences including metal staples such as Sepultura and Machine Head. These influences are evident in the more aggressive, traditional metal instrumental and vocal parts of their music. Their vocal style has been compared to the band Slipknot's because of vocalist Ryan Clark's growling, rap-like delivery. The more melodic moments in their music have been compared to the "softer" side of bands like Killswitch Engage or As I Lay Dying.

Third Day is a Christian rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia during the 1990s. The band was founded by lead singer Mac Powell and guitarist Mark Lee. The other band members are as follows: Tai Anderson, bass ; David Carr, drums; Brad Avery, guitars. The name is a reference to the biblical account of [[Jesus]] rising from the dead on the third day following his [[crucifixion]].

Third Day was the first band signed to Reunion Records in 1995, where they released their eponymous first album. They have since followed it with seven additional albums and one mini-album. Beginning with Southern Tracks, Third Day signed with Essential Records. The group won both the 2003 and the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album for Come Together and Wire, respectively.

Switchfoot is a Grammy nominated alternative rock band from San Diego, California, United States. The current members are Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass, backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums), Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), and Drew Shirley (guitar).

Switchfoot first gained mainstream recognition after the inclusion of four of their songs in the 2002 movie A Walk to Remember. This recognition led to their major label debut, The Beautiful Letdown, which was released in 2003 and sold over 2.6 million copies as well as featuring their best-known singles, "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move".

According to Jon Foreman, the name "Switchfoot" is a surfing term. "We all love to surf and have been surfing all our lives so to us, the name made sense. To switch your feet means to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. It's about change and movement, a different way of approaching life and music".

Skillet is a Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in the mid-90s. They span the musical genres from grunge to techno, industrial to alternative rock. They were heavily influenced by the bands Mortal and Fold Zandura.

First recording an album in 1996, Skillet originally had three members: John Cooper, Trey McClurkin (drums), and Ken Steorts (guitar). These original members also recorded their second CD together. With their third CD, John's wife Korey joined the band in the keyboards, Ken Steorts left the band and Kevin Haaland joined. Soon after the release of Invincible however, Trey McClurkin also left, and Lori Peters begen playing drums. Kevin Haaland left the band before Alien Youth, and Ben Kasica took over on guitar.

At the 2006 Ichthus Festival in Kentucky, it was announced onstage that their new record would be titled Comatose. Its first two singles are "Rebirthing" and "Whispers", or ("Whispers In The Dark"), and was released on October 3, 2006. Cooper has said, "As soon as my feet hit the stage, I know- no matter how many people are there- I'm going to give it everything I've got. I'm going to do the best show I can do; the wildest show. I'm gonna rock it. I think we captured that feeling on our record."
