Luke 18 Text (WEB) He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up, saying, "There was a judge in a certain city who didn't fear God, and didn't respect man. A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, 'Defend me from my adversary!' He wouldn't for a while, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God, nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" The Lord said, "Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. Won't God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others. "Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn't even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. Jesus summoned them, saying, "Allow the little children to come to me, and don't hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Most certainly, I tell you, whoever doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it." A certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus asked him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one--God. You know the commandments: 'Don't commit adultery,' 'Don't murder,' 'Don't steal,' 'Don't give false testimony,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'" He said, "I have observed all these things from my youth up." When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Come, follow me." But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich. Jesus, seeing that he became very sad, said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God." Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?" But he said, "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." Peter said, "Look, we have left everything, and followed you." He said to them, "Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the Kingdom of God's sake, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the world to come, eternal life." He took the twelve aside, and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed. For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on. They will scourge and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again." They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn't understand the things that were said. It happened, as he came near Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the road, begging. Hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant. They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. He cried out, "Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!" Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "You son of David, have mercy on me!" Standing still, Jesus commanded him to be brought to him. When he had come near, he asked him, "What do you want me to do?" He said, "Lord, that I may see again." Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, praised God.
Luke 18 Text (Hebrew) וגם משל דבר אליהם להתפלל תמיד ולא להתרפות׃ ויאמר שופט היה בעיר אחת אשר לא ירא את האלהים ולא נשא פנים לאדם׃ ואלמנה היתה בעיר ההיא ותבא אליו לאמר דינה את דיני ממריבי׃ וימאן מיום אל יום ואחרי כן אמר בנפשו גם כי את האלהים אינני ירא ולאדם לא אשא פנים׃ אעשה את דין האלמנה הזאת על הוגיעה אתי פן תבוא תמיד ותדכאני במלים׃ ויאמר האדון שמעו את אשר אמר דין העולה׃ והאלהים הלא הוא יעשה דין בחיריו הקראים אליו יומם ולילה גם כי יתמהמה להושיעם׃ אני אמר לכם כי יעשה את דינם במהרה אך בן האדם בבאו הימצא אמונה בארץ׃ ויוסף וישא משלו אל אנשים בטחים בנפשם כי צדיקים המה ואחרים נבזים בעיניהם ויאמר׃ שני אנשים עלו אל המקדש להתפלל האחד פרוש והאחד מוכס׃ ויתיצב הפרוש לבדו ויתפלל לאמר אלהים אודך כי אינני כאשר האדם הגזלים והעשקים והנאפים או גם כמכס הזה׃ אני צם פעמים בשבוע אני מעשר את כל קניני׃ והמוכס היה עמד מרחוק ולא אבה אף לשאת את עיניו לשמים כי אם תופף על לבו לאמר אלהים סלח לי החוטא׃ אני אמר לכם כי ירד זה לביתו נצדק מזה כי כל המרים את נפשו ישפל ואשר ישפילה ירומם׃ ויביאו אליו גם את הילדים למען יגע בהם ויראו התלמידים ויגערו בם׃ ויקרא אתם ישוע אליו ויאמר הניחו לילדים לבוא אלי ואל תמנעום כי לאלה מלכות האלהים׃ אמן אמר אני לכם כל אשר לא יקבל את מלכות האלהים כילד הוא לא יבא בה׃ וישאלהו קצין אחד לאמר רבי הטוב מה לי לעשות ואירש חיי עולמים׃ ויאמר אליו ישוע מדוע קראת לי טוב אין טוב בלתי אחד האלהים׃ את המצות אתה יודע לא תנאף לא תרצח לא תגנב לא תענה עד שקר כבד את אביך ואת אמך׃ ויאמר את כל אלה שמרתי מנעורי׃ וישמע ישוע ויאמר עוד אחת חסרת מכר את כל אשר לך וחלק לעניים ויהי לך אוצר בשמים ובוא ולך אחרי׃ ויהי כשמעו את זאת ויעצב מאד כי עשר גדול היה לו׃ וירא ישוע כי נעצב ויאמר כמה יקשה לבעלי נכסים לבוא אל מלכות האלהים׃ כי נקל לגמל עבר בתוך נקב המחט מבוא עשיר אל מלכות האלהים׃ ויאמרו השמעים ומי יוכל להושע׃ ויאמר מה שיפלא מבני אדם לא יפלא מאלהים׃ ויאמר פטרוס הן אנחנו עזבנו את הכל ונלך אחריך׃ ויאמר אליהם אמן אמר אני לכם אין איש אשר עזב את ביתו או את אבותיו או את אחיו או את אשתו או את בניו למען מלכות האלהים׃ ולא יקח תחתיהם כפלים הרבה בעולם הזה ובעולם הבא חיי עולמים׃ ויקח אליו את שנים העשר ויאמר להם הננו עלים ירושלימה וימלא כל הכתוב בידי הנביאים על בן האדם׃ כי ימסר לגוים ויהתלו בו ויתעללו בו וירקו בפניו׃ ואחרי הכותם אתו בשוטים ימיתוהו וביום השלישי קום יקום׃ והם לא הבינו מאומה ויהי הדבר הזה נעלם מהם ולא ידעו את הנאמר׃ ויהי בקרבו אל יריחו והנה איש עור ישב על הדרך והוא משאל׃ וישמע את קול העם העבר וידרש לדעת מה זאת׃ ויגידו לו כי ישוע הנצרי עובר׃ ויצעק לאמר ישוע בן דוד חנני׃ וההלכים בראשנה גערו בו להחשתו והוא הרבה עוד לצעק ישוע בן דוד חנני׃ ויעמד ישוע ויצו להביאו אליו ויהי כאשר קרב וישאלהו לאמר׃ מה חפצך כי אעשה לך ויאמר אדני כי אראה׃ ויאמר אליו ראה אמונתך הושיעה לך׃ ופתאם ראה וילך אחריו הלך ושבח את האלהים וכל העם בראותם זאת נתנו תודה לאלהים׃
Luke 18 Text (Greek) ελεγεν δε παραβολην αυτοις προς το δειν παντοτε προσευχεσθαι αυτους και μη εγκακειν λεγων κριτης τις ην εν τινι πολει τον θεον μη φοβουμενος και ανθρωπον μη εντρεπομενος χηρα δε ην εν τη πολει εκεινη και ηρχετο προς αυτον λεγουσα εκδικησον με απο του αντιδικου μου και ουκ ηθελεν επι χρονον μετα ειπεν εν εαυτω ει και τον θεον ου φοβουμαι ουδε ανθρωπον εντρεπομαι δια γε το παρεχειν μοι κοπον την χηραν ταυτην εκδικησω αυτην ινα μη εις τελος ερχομενη υπωπιαζη με ειπεν δε ο κυριος ακουσατε τι ο κριτης της αδικιας λεγει ο δε θεος ου μη ποιηση την εκδικησιν των εκλεκτων αυτου των βοωντων αυτω ημερας και νυκτος και μακροθυμει επ αυτοις λεγω υμιν οτι ποιησει την εκδικησιν αυτων εν ταχει πλην ο υιος του ανθρωπου ελθων αρα ευρησει την πιστιν επι της γης ειπεν δε και προς τινας τους πεποιθοτας εφ εαυτοις οτι εισιν δικαιοι και εξουθενουντας τους λοιπους την παραβολην ταυτην ανθρωποι δυο ανεβησαν εις το ιερον προσευξασθαι εις φαρισαιος και ο ετερος τελωνης ο φαρισαιος σταθεις προσηυχετο ο θεος ευχαριστω σοι οτι ουκ ειμι ωσπερ οι λοιποι των ανθρωπων αρπαγες αδικοι μοιχοι η και ως ουτος ο τελωνης νηστευω δις του σαββατου παντα οσα κτωμαι ο δε τελωνης μακροθεν εστως ουκ ηθελεν ουδε τους οφθαλμους επαραι εις τον ουρανον αλλ ετυπτεν το στηθος λεγων ο θεος ιλασθητι μοι τω αμαρτωλω λεγω υμιν κατεβη ουτος δεδικαιωμενος εις τον οικον αυτου παρ εκεινον οτι πας ο υψων εαυτον ταπεινωθησεται ο δε ταπεινων εαυτον υψωθησεται προσεφερον δε αυτω και τα βρεφη ινα αυτων απτηται ιδοντες δε οι μαθηται επετιμων αυτοις ο δε ιησους προσεκαλεσατο λεγων αφετε τα παιδια ερχεσθαι προς με και μη κωλυετε αυτα των γαρ τοιουτων εστιν η βασιλεια του θεου αμην λεγω υμιν ος αν μη δεξηται την βασιλειαν του θεου ως παιδιον ου μη εισελθη εις αυτην και επηρωτησεν τις αυτον αρχων λεγων διδασκαλε αγαθε τι ποιησας ζωην αιωνιον κληρονομησω ειπεν δε αυτω ο ιησους τι με λεγεις αγαθον ουδεις αγαθος ει μη εις θεος τας εντολας οιδας μη μοιχευσης μη φονευσης μη κλεψης μη ψευδομαρτυρησης τιμα τον πατερα σου και την μητερα ο δε ειπεν ταυτα παντα εφυλαξα εκ νεοτητος ακουσας δε ο ιησους ειπεν αυτω ετι εν σοι λειπει παντα οσα εχεις πωλησον και διαδος πτωχοις και εξεις θησαυρον εν ουρανοις και δευρο ακολουθει μοι ο δε ακουσας ταυτα περιλυπος εγενηθη ην γαρ πλουσιος σφοδρα ιδων δε αυτον ειπεν πως δυσκολως οι τα χρηματα εχοντες εις την βασιλειαν του θεου εισπορευονται ευκοπωτερον γαρ εστιν καμηλον δια τρηματος βελονης εισελθειν η πλουσιον εις την βασιλειαν του θεου εισελθειν ειπαν δε οι ακουσαντες και τις δυναται σωθηναι ο δε ειπεν τα αδυνατα παρα ανθρωποις δυνατα παρα τω θεω εστιν ειπεν δε ο πετρος ιδου ημεις αφεντες τα ιδια ηκολουθησαμεν σοι ο δε ειπεν αυτοις αμην λεγω υμιν οτι ουδεις εστιν ος αφηκεν οικιαν η γυναικα η αδελφους η γονεις η τεκνα ενεκεν της βασιλειας του θεου ος ουχι μη πολλαπλασιονα εν τω καιρω τουτω και εν τω αιωνι τω ερχομενω ζωην αιωνιον παραλαβων δε τους δωδεκα ειπεν προς αυτους ιδου αναβαινομεν εις ιερουσαλημ και τελεσθησεται παντα τα γεγραμμενα δια των προφητων τω υιω του ανθρωπου παραδοθησεται γαρ τοις εθνεσιν και εμπαιχθησεται και υβρισθησεται και εμπτυσθησεται και μαστιγωσαντες αποκτενουσιν αυτον και τη ημερα τη τριτη αναστησεται και αυτοι ουδεν τουτων συνηκαν και ην το ρημα τουτο κεκρυμμενον απ αυτων και ουκ εγινωσκον τα λεγομενα εγενετο δε εν τω εγγιζειν αυτον εις ιεριχω τυφλος τις εκαθητο παρα την οδον επαιτων ακουσας δε οχλου διαπορευομενου επυνθανετο τι ειη τουτο απηγγειλαν δε αυτω οτι ιησους ο ναζωραιος παρερχεται και εβοησεν λεγων ιησου υιε δαυιδ ελεησον με και οι προαγοντες επετιμων αυτω ινα σιγηση αυτος δε πολλω μαλλον εκραζεν υιε δαυιδ ελεησον με σταθεις δε ιησους εκελευσεν αυτον αχθηναι προς αυτον εγγισαντος δε αυτου επηρωτησεν αυτον τι σοι θελεις ποιησω ο δε ειπεν κυριε ινα αναβλεψω και ο ιησους ειπεν αυτω αναβλεψον η πιστις σου σεσωκεν σε και παραχρημα ανεβλεψεν και ηκολουθει αυτω δοξαζων τον θεον και πας ο λαος ιδων εδωκεν αινον τω θεω
Luke 18 Text (Latin) Dicebat autem et parabolam ad illos, quoniam oportet semper orare et non deficere, dicens : Judex quidam erat in quadam civitate, qui Deum non timebat, et hominem non reverebatur. Vidua autem quædam erat in civitate illa, et veniebat ad eum, dicens : Vindica me de adversario meo. Et nolebat per multum tempus. Post hæc autem dixit intra se : Etsi Deum non timeo, nec hominem revereor : tamen quia molesta est mihi hæc vidua, vindicabo illam, ne in novissimo veniens sugillet me. Ait autem Dominus : Audite quid judex iniquitatis dicit : Deus autem non faciet vindictam electorum suorum clamantium ad se die ac nocte, et patientiam habebit in illis ? Dico vobis quia cito faciet vindictam illorum. Verumtamen Filius hominis veniens, putas, inveniet fidem in terra ? Dixit autem et ad quosdam qui in se confidebant tamquam justi, et aspernabantur ceteros, parabolam istam : Duo homines ascenderunt in templum ut orarent : unus pharisæus et alter publicanus. Pharisæus stans, hæc apud se orabat : Deus, gratias ago tibi, quia non sum sicut ceteri hominum : raptores, injusti, adulteri, velut etiam hic publicanus : jejuno bis in sabbato, decimas do omnium quæ possideo. Et publicanus a longe stans, nolebat nec oculos ad cælum levare : sed percutiebat pectus suum, dicens : Deus propitius esto mihi peccatori. Dico vobis, descendit hic justificatus in domum suam ab illo : quia omnis qui se exaltat, humiliabitur, et qui se humiliat, exaltabitur. Afferebant autem ad illum et infantes, ut eos tangeret. Quo audito, Jesus ait ei : Adhuc unum tibi deest : omnia quæcumque habes vende, et da pauperibus, et habebis thesaurum in cælo : et veni, sequere me. His ille auditis, contristatus est : quia dives erat valde. Videns autem Jesus illum tristem factum, dixit : Quam difficile, qui pecunias habent, in regnum Dei intrabunt ! facilius est enim camelum per foramen acus transire quam divitem intrare in regnum Dei. Et dixerunt qui audiebant : Et quis potest salvus fieri ? Ait illis : Quæ impossibilia sunt apud homines, possibilia sunt apud Deum. Ait autem Petrus : Ecce nos dimisimus omnia et secuti sumus te. Qui dixit eis : Amen dico vobis, nemo est qui reliquit domum, aut parentes, aut fratres, aut uxorem, aut filios propter regnum Dei, et non recipiat multo plura in hoc tempore, et in sæculo venturo vitam æternam. Assumpsit autem Jesus duodecim, et ait illis : Ecce ascendimus Jerosolymam, et consummabuntur omnia quæ scripta sunt per prophetas de Filio hominis : tradetur enim gentibus, et illudetur, et flagellabitur, et conspuetur : et postquam flagellaverint, occident eum, et tertia die resurget. Et ipsi nihil horum intellexerunt, et erat verbum istud absconditum ab eis, et non intelligebant quæ dicebantur. Factum est autem, cum appropinquaret Jericho, cæcus quidam sedebat secus viam, mendicans. Et cum audiret turbam prætereuntem, interrogabat quid hoc esset. Dixerunt autem ei quod Jesus Nazarenus transiret. Et clamavit, dicens : Jesu, fili David, miserere mei. Et qui præibant, increpabant eum ut taceret. Ipse vero multo magis clamabat : Fili David, miserere mei. Stans autem Jesus jussit illum adduci ad se. Et cum appropinquasset, interrogavit illum, dicens : Quid tibi vis faciam ? At ille dixit : Domine, ut videam. Et Jesus dixit illi : Respice, fides tua te salvum fecit. Et confestim vidit, et sequebatur illum magnificans Deum. Et omnis plebs ut vidit, dedit laudem Deo.

And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
