[[Jacob]] and his entire family were exalted in the land of [[Egypt]] and given the land of Goshen. The [[Israel]]ites became prosperous and soon lost sight of the covenant promise. They also began to take part in the sins of [[Egypt]].
In a time of prosperity hearts often grow cold and indifferent toward the [[Lord]]. It is easy to become involved in material things. Such was the case with the nation of [[Israel]]. They were satisfied in [[Egypt]] and soon were entirely enslaved by the nation that welcomed them.
This is a perfect parallel of how worldly things can enslave the believer today. Satan sees that it is so easy to get our minds off the things of [[God]] and on the things of the world. But [[God]] has made a way of escape through His mercy and [[grace]]. The Holy [[Spirit]] , who indwells the heart of the believer, is our daily substance. In Galatians 2:20 [[Paul]] tells us, "...and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the [[faith]] of the Son of [[God]], who loved me, and gave himself for me.".
Be careful in your daily living! Never get careless about the things of [[God]], and beware of the snares that Satan would bring before you. I [[John]] 2:15 tells us to, "[[Love]] not the world, neither the things that are in the world.".
