The Book of Malachi is a book of the Old Testament written by the prophet Malachi. Malachi directed a message of judgement to a people plagued with corrupt priests, sinful practices, and a false sense of security in their privileged relationship with God. For four hundred years after Malachi's ringing condemnations, there were no prophets. Only with the coming of John the Baptist (prophesied in Malachi 3:1) did God again communicate to His people through a prophet's voice.
