Commentary
The Gospel according to Matthew (Greek: Κατά Μαθθαίον) is the first book of the New Testament. It is one of the four Gospels, containing an acccount account of the birth of Jesus, his ministry and his death and resurrection. It closes with Jesus' Great Commission, where he called his disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations."---- Read Matthew Henry's Concise Bible Commentary on the SUBPAGENAME ----

Purpose
Matthew's main purpose appears to be to show that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament predictions concerning the Messiah. All of the Gospel writers quote from the Old Testament, however Matthew has nine Old Testament proof-texts that are unique to his Gospel (Matthew 1:22-23; Matthew 2:15; Matthew 2:17-18; Matthew 2:23; Mathew Matthew 4:14-16; Matthew 8:17; Matthew 12:17-21; Matthew 13:35; Matthew 27:9-10).
