Mary (mother of Jesus)

Mary, the wife of Joseph, a carpenter from Nazareth, was the mother of Jesus. She conceived Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit, before marrying and having sexual relationships with her husband. She was present when Jesus was crucified and saw him risen. The Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic specially venerate Mary and she is often referred to as the Virgin Mary. There are some teachings in the Roman Catholic church regarding Mary that are denied in the Protestant churches. (Read more)
