The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a 2005 film based on the first book in the series (though second in the chronological order in Narnia) The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, and is scheduled to be released in December 9, 2005 in the US.

The film features Tilda Swinton as Jadis, the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan. The film is directed by Andrew Adamson, of Shrek fame.

It is being filmed in New Zealand, and features New Zealand's Weta Workshop (The Lord of the Rings) providing Creature/Armor/Weapon Designs.

The rating of the film in the United States is not yet known and could be either PG or PG-13. Arguments for a PG-13 rating include that there is likely to be violent content and intense epic battle sequences, while arguments for a PG rating include the fact that this movie's marketing campaign seems to be targeted at children.

Tagline: There are a thousand stories in the land of Narnia … The first is about to be told.

Film Plot

The film's plot is similar to that of its source material. It begins in 1940 when London is being plagued by air raids and the Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are sent by their parents to the country home of Professor Kirke. Mrs. Macready, a servant, of Kirke, gives the children a few rules regarding their behavior of the house. One day while they are playing hide and seek, Lucy discovers a wardrobe and enters it. She immediately realizes that she has entered another world. Although at first her siblings don't initially believe her, ultimately they too travel into Narnia and must help Aslan, the lion messiah of Narnia, and the other inhabitants of this paralell world from freeing it from the rule of the evil Jadis the White Witch.
