Tower of Babel

The eleventh chapter of the book of Genesis describes the story of the Tower of Babel. The tower is described as an enourmous structure that was built by people so that they would be known as great rather than to trust in God. God responded to this act by confusing the languages of the people and causing them to become scatterred throughout the world.
