Jesus (popularly known as Jesus Christ or Jesus Christof Nazareth) is the central figure that separates Christianity from other religions. He was, as Christians believe that he is , both God and a man; that he He created the world and mankind, and that he He is alive today.  He was born around 4 B.C (although the year is disputed to be anywhere between 7 and 4 BC B.C) in Bethlehem. His family fled to Egypt under the prosecution of Herod the Great before settling in Nazareth. Jesus worked as a carpenter with His legitimate father, St. Joseph in and grew up in around Judea (modern day Israel or Palestine where he taught ). Around the age of 30, He preached about God's love and the repentance of sin. Due to his teachings, the Pharisees accused Jesus of blasphemy and asked the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate for his execution. He died on a cross for the sins of all humanity and rose again 3 days later. A Christian believes that faith in him Him brings salvation.
Name
Christ was the title of Jesus (not his surname) and means "anointed". Other titles for Jesus include "Son of God" and "Son of David".

Jesus' legal name would have been "Jesus ben Joseph" or more literally, Yehoshua ben Yosef.
Nature of Christ
Death of Jesus
Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem around the year 30 AD. He was executed because of his claims to be the Son of God, which was considered blasphemous by the religious leaders of his day. In his death, the Bible tells us, that he He bore all the sins of mankind, so that we could be clean and without sin in the eyes of God. His death is remembered on Good Friday but it is not the end of the story.
