The city lay on the [[Euphrates River]] about 100 km south of modern day [[Baghdad]]. The Babylonian Empire, at the height of it's power, conquered the Southern Kingdom of Judah, exiling its people. A number of Old Testament books speak about some of the events surrounding this such as [[2 Kings]], the [[Book of Isaiah]] and the [[Book of Daniel]].
