The Big Bang Theory was proposed by Georges Lemaître in 1927. The theory is an important contribution by [[Christians]] to modern science.

The theory encompasses the set of ideas that the world was created instantly with a giant explosion at a very dense point in the universe. There wasn't much evidence to support the theory until the 1970s and 1980s.

Despite commonly being used by [[Atheists]] as evidence that [[Christianity]] is a fable, the theory has strong Christian roots. Many early Christian thinkers believed that God created the Earth instantly and that [[Creation]] as described in [[Genesis]], was a metaphor. Georges Lemaître is the man who first published his theory in the early 1930s, and Lemaître was a Catholic priest.
