Replaced text of the comment I put up recently - hopefully the new version is less cryptic.
====John 20:1 "cometh Mary Magdalene ... unto the sepulchre".====
That verb is the instance The Authorised Version (KJV) says that Mary "erchetaicometh"to the tomb. That seems, which has morphology v-pni-3sto a modern reader, of the word-stem which to imply that she has Strong's number 2064already arrived there. (The abbreviation v-pni-3s means In that case there seems to be a verbcontradiction with Matthew and Mark, present tense, middle or passive deponent voice, indicativewho indicate that the women arrived at daybreak, third person singularwhen it would probably be no longer dark.)
At The NIV translates the verb in John 1620:25, exactly the same instance 2064 v-pni-3s is translated by 1 as "is comingwent" by numerous versions. In that case, including NIV, ESV, NKJV, NASBit was dark while Mary was on her way to the tomb, Weymouthbut light when she arrived there.
The word Would it be better to read the verb as "erchetaiis coming" is listed 38 times in ? That would not mean that Mary had already arrived at the Gospel of Johntomb, andso that, of thoseas with the NIV translation, there would not be the NASB translates 11 occurrences as "is coming"inconsistency with Matthew and Mark.
So apparently the verse There are two items of evidence suggesting that "is coming" is a reasonable translation at John 20:1 could properly . They are:- (1) The Greek word is "erchetai". It can be described as Strong's number 2064 and morphology v-pni-3s. Exactly the same Greek word, occurring at John 16:25, is translated as "Mary Magdalene is coming " in many versions, for example NIV, ESV, NKJV, NASB, Weymouth. (2) That word "erchetai" occurs 38 times in John's Gospel.. unto In the sepulchreNASB it is translated "is coming"in 11 of those, according to the Sainte Bible website, which mentions Englishman's Concordance. That English phrase does So "is coming" is a not tell us that she has arrived at infrequent translation of "erchetai" in the sepulchre yet, so there is no inconsistency with Matthew, Mark or LukeNASB.
This remark is relegated to the Discussion webpage because I do not know Greek.
