The Qur'an Teaches Jesus Crucified and Resurrected (JBJ)

good start
Muslims have many different interpretations of what happened to Jesus and the crucifixion, but all of them encounter serious logical, historical, and theological problems. Another view is that the Qur'an states Jesus was crucified, resurrected, and then ascended. This article will not use historical evidence or the resurrection; its purpose is to understand what the Qur'an meant.

Muslim Theories
Substitution Theory
Main article: Substitution of Jesus

Most Muslims interpret the Qur'an to mean that Jesus did not die; he ascended before the crucifixion, God transformed another person to appear to be Jesus, and the Jews crucified this person instead. This interpretation runs into several internal contradictions and the problem that God is shown as deceptive and then blames the Jews for being deceived.

Swoon Theory
Main article: Swoon Theory

Begun by Ahmed Deedat, but held by nonMuslims for some time, the swoon theory says that Jesus was crucified but did not die. Three days later he rivived and people naturally believed he had risen from the dead. The problem with this is that it does not fit well with the Qur'an and it was not physically possible for someone to survive crucifixion.

Elevetation Theory
Jesus died but was not resurrected or ascend to heaven. Rather, his status was elevated by God.

Jesus Died
It can first be proven that the Qur'an says and supports that Jesus died.

Implications
If Jesus died and resurrected, it would be a large piece of evidence that Jesus was a greater prophet than Muhammad. While Muhammad did not perform any miracles except the Qur'an itself and was the Seal of the Prophets, Jesus was al-Masih, was God's word, was a spirit from God, delivered the Injil, spoke as a baby, created a bird, healed the blind and lepers, raised others and himself from the dead. Muhammad could not objectively be considered the greatest prophet.
